A referral program for your cleaning business that clients actually use
Your happy clients already know people who need a cleaner. Here is how to set up a simple "give and get" referral offer, ask at the right moment, and say thank you.

Your best new clients usually come from your current ones. A friend's recommendation carries more trust than any ad, and referred clients tend to stay longer because they already know what to expect. Most cleaning businesses get some referrals by luck. A simple program turns luck into a habit.
Give and get: the offer that works
The easiest referral offer to explain is "give and get":
- The friend gets something on their first clean, like $25 off.
- Your client gets a thank-you when the friend books, like $25 off their next clean.
Both sides win, and your client doesn't feel like they're selling something. They're giving a friend a deal.
Pick an amount you can afford on a first clean. Many cleaners use $20 to $50, or a free add-on like inside the oven or fridge. Keep the same offer for a while so people remember it.
Note that this is different from reviews: rewarding referrals is a normal business practice, but you should never reward people for leaving reviews.
Make it personal
A general "Tell your friends!" post gets a few likes. A personal ask gets referrals.
- Give each client their own link or code, so you know who sent whom and who to thank.
- Write the message for them. A short text they can forward in one tap does most of the work.
- Print a few cards with their offer to leave on the counter after a clean. Some people would rather hand a card to a neighbor than send a text.
When to ask
Ask when your client is happiest:
- Right after they compliment your work
- After a deep clean or a first clean that went really well
- When they leave you a great review
- Before the holidays and spring, when their friends are thinking about cleaning too
Keep it light: "So glad you love it! If you have friends who could use a hand, here's a link that gives them $25 off, and you'll get $25 off too when they book."
Follow up fast
When a friend reaches out through a referral, treat them like gold. Reply quickly, mention who sent them ("Jessica told us you might need a hand!") and make booking easy.
Always say thank you
When a referred friend books, thank your client right away. Send a text, give the reward you promised on their next clean, and mark it so you don't forget. A client who gets thanked once usually refers again.
Track what works
Keep a simple list: who referred whom, when they booked and whether you gave the reward. Over time you'll see which clients are your biggest fans. Those are the people to look after, invite to try new services first, and maybe surprise with something extra.
A simple checklist
- Choose your give-and-get offer and write it down.
- Give each regular client their own link or code.
- Ask at happy moments, with a message they can forward.
- Reply to referred friends fast and mention who sent them.
- Thank and reward your client the day their friend books.
